the handwritten note

Does anyone write notes anymore? Emails, IMs, and Twitter updates don't count. I'm talking about the "old school" pen in hand, simple words from the heart, lick the envelope, hunt for a stamp kind of note. I'm guilty of using Ecards and Evites despite the evergrowing stash of stationery that I've amassed throughout the years, but there's something so sweet and simple (and unexpected!) about sending and receiving notes via snail mail.

Pictured above is a sneak peek at some notecard sets that I'll be selling at The Wedding Cafe. The cards are made with imported paper (many are handmade and recycled!) and adorned with Swarovski crystals. Six cards per set and pearl white or silver metallic envelopes are included. There's a limited number of sets per design and some of these papers are no longer in print, so if you see something you like head over to the cafe to snatch it up.

My two cents...

I hate sounding like a broken record, but here we go again.

The cost of a first-class stamp is going up to 44 cents on May 11. You can avoid shelling out the extra pennies if you stock up on Forever stamps, of course, but most of my clients aren't crazy about adorning their pretty invitations with the Liberty Bell.

I always recommend that clients take a complete invitation set to the post office for weighing. They'll tell you exactly how much postage is required and you'll have peace of mind that your lovely invites will get to their recipients safe and sound. WARNING WARNING WARNING: If your response deadline falls AFTER May 11, be sure that the stamps you affix for your response cards account for the rate increase: additional two cents for a 1-ounce envelope or one cent for a standard postcard.

I know it's a pain. Believe me, I know.

Rosalyn + Zevi: PART TWO

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.

This is one of the first things that Rosalyn and I discussed when we had our first consultation. We talked about an invitation that would represent Rosalyn's and Zevi's cultures while still maintaining an elegant and classic feel. It had to symbolize each distinct culture and also blend them together with one cohesive design. Not an impossible task, but definitely a challenging one.

We came up with a deep red double xi (double happiness) symbol encircled by the saying, "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine" in both Hebrew and English. The interior of the invitation featured a watermark bamboo design behind the text to give it a softer feel.

(The photo at the top is the challah that Rosalyn and Zevi ordered from a small local Jewish deli. They "broke bread" before starting the nine course Chinese dinner.)

Thanks to Rosalyn and Zevi for sharing these beautiful photos - and memories - from their wedding. It's so amazing to hear about all the ways they personalized this very special day!

Rosalyn + Zevi: PART ONE

Imagine signing the guest book at a wedding and being told that you'll be seated at the BEEF CHOW FUN table. You walk through the room and see that your BEEF CHOW FUN table is just past the LATKES table. Then you look towards the middle of the room and see the MATZO BALL SOUP and MINUTE CHICKEN CAKE NOODLE head table. Intrigued? That's exactly what guests of Rosalyn and Zevi experienced at their summer wedding last year. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Top photo: Zevi's mother made this chuppah in 1975 and it has been used in weddings by many of their family and friends. Sewn on the chuppah is the Hebrew word "chai" which means "life."

Middle photo: Rosalyn and Zevi pose with the lions after the Chinese lion dance (an iconic staple in any Chinese celebration).

Bottom photo: Rosalyn and Zevi found a woman in Hawaii to design their ketubah (a decorative Jewish marriage contract) which featured Hawaiian-inspired artwork with text in Hebrew, English and Hawaiian.

More to come!

Love potion

Sorry for the lag in blogging. Wish it was because my husband whisked me away for a surprise getaway, but it was because my schedule just got incredibly busy...so busy, that I've been responding to emails in the wee hours of the night, skipping lunch, and neglecting my ever-growing pile of laundry.

To make up for my sparse entries, I have the CUTEST thing to share with you today! One of my clients emailed this image to me...the very same image that was used on her save the date card:

The bride is a science teacher and one of her students was inspired to create this adorable illustration in honor of her upcoming nuptials. See the love potion that the teacher is holding? It doesn't get any cuter than that!

FYI, I have lots of photos to share from this client's wedding. It was filled with unique personal touches that celebrated the cultures of the bride and groom...seamlessly. As soon as I get my head on straight, I'll post the pics for you all to enjoy!
